Closing an Interview

As you’re navigating the interview process, it’s important to pay close attention to important points on the timeline of the deal. Doesn’t matter if it’s the first interview or third in the process, the opening & closing of each meeting is super important. 🤝

We all know that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Today though, let’s talk about closing an interview. Each meeting in the process should be closed in a memorable fashion.

Acing the closing moments of your interview can be crucial to leaving a lasting positive impression. Here are a few ideas to help you wrap it up and bring it home:

1. Ask Insightful Questions During the Interview: Demonstrate your genuine interest in the company and the role. Ask insightful questions that go beyond the basic information readily available online. 💡

Examples: “How will you define success in this role? After 90 days/180 days?” or “What are the key success metrics for this role?”

2. Reiterate Your Interest and Highlight Your Fit As The Meeting Wraps Up: Briefly restate your enthusiasm for the position and how your qualifications align with the role’s requirements. 😃

Example: “Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. This conversation has further solidified my interest in the [position name] role. With my experience in [relevant skill] and proven success in [achievement related to the job], I’m confident I can make a significant contribution to your team.”

3. Emphasize Your Next Steps: Convey your eagerness to move forward in the hiring process. Briefly mention your availability for next steps, such as additional interviews or assessments. 🪜

Example: “I’m very interested in learning more about [next step in the hiring process]. When would you like me to follow up or will I hear from someone (or recruiter) from your end?”

4. Express Gratitude and Thank You: Express sincere appreciation for the interviewer’s time and consideration. A simple “Thank you again for the opportunity to meet you and learn more about the company and position” goes a long way. 🙏🏻

Bonus Tip: Follow up promptly with a succinct thank-you email reiterating your relevant experience (as fleshed out in #1) and interest in the position.

Most times you aren’t going to get the job after the first interview, so your goal is a close to the next meeting. If you are towards the end of the process then by all means, your close should point towards your interest in the company, position and an offer. Make certain to leave a lasting positive impression and increase your chances of securing that offer! 🙌🏻
